In a 2006-ish Toyota Camry on BALD TIRES in the snow, flooring the throttle and getting flustered because he didn't know why his car was stuck in only 4 inches of tightly compacted snow. I offered him some advice and tips to keep him from blowing his engine up, but his tire had dug itself all the way in. There was no hope left for him.

I'll never forget the time a former coworker got stuck in deep snow in her RWD Mercedes C240. She was from the south, and didn't understand why her tires would spin on ice. I tried to explain traction to her, not to mention the fact that her car was rear-wheel drive, and she just threw her hands up and said, "It's a Mercedes! When you spend that much on a car, it should be able to at least drive!"

Maybe if they're too cheap to buy decent tires they can at least afford this.

I have a steep driveway and when the temp dropped to -15 C or lower, I sprinkled some down on the compacted ice/snow material that my driveway became covered with. 3$ for a 15 or 20lb bag of no-name clay cat litter is really helpful when you live alone. Definitely keep a few bags in your house/garage and a bag or two in your car.

But...but...I thought when it was icy, and you were going to slow, you mashed the gas, and jammed on the brakes when you want to slow down or slide, right? Right?
